FAQs

Where is Watermark Gallery?

The gallery is in the centre of Harrogate, North Yorkshire, a few minutes walk (downhill) from Bettys tearooms, on Royal Parade (No 8). We are next to the Old Bell inn, opposite the entrance to the Royal Pump Room Museum and round the corner from the Valley Gardens and the Mercer Art Gallery. See our contact page here.

Can you park outside the gallery?

Yes, there is pay and display parking right outside the gallery and free parking of up to 3 hours within a five minute walk (Swan Road, Valley Road). To make use of the free parking you need a parking disk which is free from the tourist information office, and many shops and hotels.

What are your opening times?

Our usual opening times are Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 5pm. We are closed on Sundays and Bank Holidays, unless stated otherwise. At certain times of the year we may extend our opening times. Please check the contact page here.

Is your gallery accessible for those with disabilities?

Watermark Gallery is fully accessible for wheelchair users. We have a ramp to help access the front step and once inside the gallery is completely level. Please contact us on 01423 562 659 if you would like to make us aware of any specific needs and if you would like any help to plan your visit.

Can I buy gift vouchers?

Yes, we offer gift vouchers in £50, £100 and £250 denominations. These can be found in the Gifts section of our site here.  We offer basic gift vouchers in an envelope or you can buy a special presentation gift box with ribbon for an extra £2.25 each.

Do you offer a gift wrapping service?

Yes, we do offer gift wrapping on request.

Is there an entrance fee for the gallery and exhibitions?

No.

Are dogs allowed in the gallery?

Yes, well behaved dogs are very welcome, although we would prefer it if they don’t have really muddy paws!

Do you frame artworks for the general public?

We do offer a bespoke framing service for members of the public through our sister company, Artworks Conservation. Our service includes advice on the right type of frame moulding to use, how to mount an artwork (e.g. Over-mounting or float-mounting), type and colour of mountboard and which glass to use. All of our mounting and framing is carried out to museum standards. Read more about our mounting and framing service here. If you would like an estimate please contact us with an image of your artwork as well as its size and send it to [email protected].

I am an artist, how do I submit work to Watermark Gallery?

We are always interested in considering applications from prospective artists who are interested in working with us. We have a small panel that considers all applications on a regular basis. However, our gallery is not huge and we don’t have room for everyone who contacts us. We also don’t accept artists who are already working with other local galleries within a 20 mile radius. To apply please send an email with no more than five images of recent work , along with your biography and any links to an Instagram account or website. You can send this to our contact email address ([email protected]). NB: Please don’t bring work directly in to the gallery as we are unable to consider it during opening hours.

Are all your artists based in Yorkshire?

We currently work with over 50 professional artists and makers and about a third are based in Yorkshire and the North East. We enjoy supporting local artists as well as those working throughout the rest of the UK.

Does Watermark Gallery buy art from members of the public?
